PVC Wall Panels for Bathrooms and Showers: Planning, Installation, and Care
Share
Marble-look PVC wall panels are a practical way to create a continuous decorative wall surface with fewer panel joints than small-format tile. CHILTAN PVC wall panels are sold in a 4 × 9 ft, 3 mm format, making careful measurement and layout the first step in a successful project.
Measure the wall and plan the layout
Start with the finished wall width and height, then note windows, doors, niches, outlets, fixtures, and corners. A 4 × 9 ft panel covers about 36 square feet before cuts. Divide the gross wall area by 36, round up, and allow for cuts, pattern direction, and project-specific waste.
- Place full panels where they will be most visible.
- Plan cuts around corners, openings, and fixtures before applying adhesive.
- Check the direction of the marble pattern before making final cuts.
- Order enough material from one batch when exact visual continuity matters.

Use PVC wall panels correctly in bathrooms and shower areas
Decorative PVC wall panels are interior cladding, not structural material and not a substitute for a waterproofing assembly where one is required. In a shower or other wet area, performance depends on the wall substrate, required waterproofing, compatible adhesive, sealed joints and edges, penetrations, ventilation, and correct installation.
Before beginning, confirm local code requirements and the recommendations of your installer, adhesive manufacturer, and waterproofing system manufacturer. For complex wet-area projects, professional installation is recommended.
Prepare the wall before installation
A smooth, clean, sound substrate helps the panel sit flat and helps adhesive perform as intended. Remove loose material, repair damage, and allow the surface to dry. Check the wall for flatness before starting; panels should not be forced over large voids, bows, or failing surfaces.
- Confirm the substrate is suitable for the chosen adhesive and the project conditions.
- Dry-fit panels, trims, and cut pieces before adhesive is applied.
- Make clean, supported cuts using a method appropriate for 3 mm PVC panels.
- Use trims where they improve edges, corners, or panel-to-panel transitions.
- Seal joints and penetrations as required for the project and compatible products.

Keep the finished wall looking its best
For routine care, wipe the surface with a soft, non-abrasive cloth and a cleaner appropriate for PVC. Avoid aggressive abrasives or tools that can dull a high-gloss surface. Test any new cleaner in an inconspicuous area first and follow the product instructions.
